Texas pizza delivery driver fatally shot customer in self-defense, police say

A Texas pizza delivery driver fatally shot a customer over the weekend, authorities say.

Here's what we know:

Texas pizza delivery gone 'wrong'

An argument between a pizza delivery driver and a Houston resident turned deadly when the driver shot the customer multiple times, according to the Houston Police Department.

The driver killed the customer at Park Yellowstone Apartment Homes about 12:40 a.m. Sunday, police said. Law enforcement officers told KHOU that the driver arrived at the given address and was confronted by two men demanding money at gunpoint.

The driver then pulled out his own gun and fatally shot one of the men, and the other ran away, leaving the driver unharmed, police said.

"We're not sure how the pizza delivery went so wrong that somebody wound up getting shot," police Sgt. Mark Holbrook told KHOU at a news conference. "But that is what we're investigating right now."

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police, Holbrook said.

Details of Houston pizza delivery shooting unclear

Although police did not release the name of the dead man, his brother spoke with KHOU.

Ameer White said his 21-year-old brother, Areyeh White, was shot and killed in the altercation. They lived together in an apartment, but at the time of the shooting, his brother was at his girlfriend's unit in the complex, Ameer White said.

White said he found the circumstances of the shooting strange, according to KHOU.

"They say he was the pizza delivery guy, but we don't have a receipt that he was buying a pizza," White said. "If you were the pizza delivery guy, why did you have a ... why were you armed?"

The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, police said.
