A third man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over a fatal stabbing in a town.

Lloyd Velasquez, 34, died in hospital after being attacked in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, at about 20:20 BST on Wednesday.

Cheshire Police said a 20-year-old man from the town was held earlier and remains in custody, along with two other men, aged 19 and 21, who were arrested on Thursday.

Appealing for information, Ch Supt Jon Betts said it was believed to be an "isolated" attack.

“I understand the concern that this is likely to cause, but we would like to assure residents that this type of incident is incredibly rare in Cheshire," he said.

"There will be extra patrols conducted in the area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to an officer."

A force representative said it was believed Mr Velasquez was attacked by three men "who were known to him".

They added that his family were being supported by specialist officers.
