Three people fined for filming crash in Louth
Three motorists have been fined for filming the scene of a crash on the M1 in County Louth.
Two lanes of the busy cross border motorway were blocked after a heavy goods lorry crashed yesterday morning.
In a social media post, Gardaí (Irish police) said: "Unbelievably while dealing with this complicated scene Gardaí witnessed three motorists driving past while recording the scene with their phones."
The three drivers, one of whom was driving a work van, were stopped and fined.
Gardaí from Clogherhead, Dundalk and Drogheda, who attended the scene, said the behaviour of the drivers left them "genuinely lost for words".
They added: "Using your phone increases the risk of another accident taking place potentially injuring or possibly causing a fatality at a collision."
Describing the behaviour as "completely disrespectful to anyone involved in the collision", the Gardaí said.
"You have to ask yourself would you like a photo/video of you being uploaded onto social media if something like this happened to you."
