Tom Cruise Single at 50: A Look at His Past Loves

Superstar actor Tom Cruise is celebrating his 50th birthday on July 3. Unfortunately for him, it might not be the happiest of birthdays. It has only been a few days since news of his pending divorce from Katie Holmes became public, and that figures to dominate the headlines for some time. The two have lawyered up and are preparing for a long battle in the courts, especially if the rumors about Scientology being the major issue are true. The fact that another high profile romance is ending just before the actor's 50th birthday is a little interesting. Based on his history and popularity, it won't be long before he finds the next love of his life. Here is a look at some of the notable ex-lovers from Tom's first 50 years.

    Mimi Rogers

Shortly after Tom hit it big with his starring role in "Top Gun," he walked down the aisle for the first time with actress Mimi Rogers in 1987. He was just 24 years old at the time, six years younger than Mimi was. Though the couple split in 1989 and were divorced a year later, Mimi might have had more influence over Tom than any of his other exes. It was through her that he learned about Scientology, the controversial religion that has been closely associated with him ever since.

    Nicole Kidman

Shortly after the split from his first wife, Tom met the Australian beauty while filming the hit movie "Days of Thunder." The two were married in 1990 and enjoyed an incredible decade together before Tom filed for divorce in 2001. Though Nicole later admitted to being stunned by her marriage ending, she had good things to say about her ex-husband. "To me, he was just Tom, but to everybody else, he is huge," she said in 2006. "But he was lovely to me. And I loved him. I still love him." The couple adopted two children together during their marriage.

    Penelope Cruz

Proving that he is never single for long, the actor started dating the Spanish beauty right after his split from Nicole. They met while filming the drama "Vanilla Sky" and remained together for three years before ending their relationship in 2004. "They broke up at the end of January and it's amicable," said Cruise's sister at the time. Though the two never married, they faced constant public speculation on the subject throughout their relationship.
