The "Inception" and "Locke" actor agrees to appear in "The Revenant," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
With Iñárritu already well known for "Amores Perros," "21 Grams," "Babel" and "Biutiful," the tale of wild revenge is set to start shooting in September with a late 2015 release projected.
Adapted from the Michael Punke novel, "The Revenant" takes place in the early 19th century American West and revolves around adventurer Hugh Glass.
Mauled within an inch of his life by a bear, and put into the care of two mercenaries who leave him behind when an Indian attack is imminent, Glass sets off on a 3,000-mile quest for justice.
Filming starts on September 22, not long before Iñárritu's Michael Keaton project "Birdman" releases mid-October. Hardy has a starring role in 2015 films "Mad Max: Fury Road" and crime thriller "Legend."
