New TomTom Runner Cardio Measures Your Heart Rate

TomTom is continuing its focus on fitness with the launch of the new Runner Cardio and Multi-Sport Cardio fitness bands. The $269 Runner Cardio and $299 Multi-Sport Cardio can be ordered via TomTom's website today. These are follow up devices to the company's previous TomTom Runner GPS Watch.

Adding a built-in heart rate monitor enhances the capability of the devices, letting you track your cardio activity without having to strap a band around your chest. The new devices also offers a series of zones based on your heart's performance such as Fat Burn, Sprint, Endure and Easy so you can train at an optimal level. You can also race yourself by pulling up past performances and have that information displayed in real time as you run.

The new watches carry similar designs to their predecessors. As before, the Runner model targets jogging enthusiasts, while the Multi-Sport can be used to track swimming, cycling and other activities. TomTom's website is light on other details such as specs, so we'll have to wait for our full review to find out if the new TomTom Runner Cardio can really help you better your training.

When we reviewed the TomTom Runner GPS Watch, we liked its comfortable design, easy-to-read display and good battery life. Its QuickGPSFix feature was helpful in locating us, albeit a tad slow when the sky was overcast. Based on pictures on TomTom's website, the new devices come in an attractive red version.
