I was in the Mentawaiis the day the quake hit. I was traveling throughout Indonesia surfing and doing humanitarian work. As with so many surfers who volunteer every year, the first part of my trip was to consist of a standard boat charter trip with friends through the Mentawaii Islands.

A minor earthquake rattled the remote Mojave Desert this morning in the general area of Trona on the northern border of San Bernardino County, according to U.S. Geological Survey seismometers. The magnitude 3.0 quake struck at 5:21 a.m. 16 miles south-southeast of Trona and 23 miles east of Ridgecrest - the same region that was rocked by a magnitude 4.6 temblor at 1:21 p.m. Monday.

Seismologists said Tuesday an earthquake struck off Canada's Pacific coast province of British Columbia. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.6-magnitude quake's epicenter is 414 miles northwest of Vancouver, British Columbia. It was followed by a 5.7 magnitude aftershock seven minutes later.
