MIAMI - Forecasters say Ida has weakened to a tropical depression and is heading east toward the Florida Panhandle with winds near 35 mph (55 kph). Ida was a tropical storm with winds near 45 mph (75 kph) when it came ashore near Mobile Bay in southern Alabama on Tuesday morning.

MIAMI (AP) — Ida has weakened to a tropical storm, but warnings remain along 200 miles of the Gulf Coast from Mississippi to Florida. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reports that the storm weakened early Monday from a Category 2 storm to a Category 1 to its current classification.
As of 9 a.m. CST, all hurricane warnings and watches along the Gulf Coast were discontinued, though a tropical storm warning remains in effect from Grand Isle, La., eastward to the Aucilla River in Florida, the National Hurricane Center reported.
