Toyota's 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro gives the joys of distinctive but burly off-road gear and attitude, without the sacrifice in comfort or warranty coverage of a truck tricked-out in the aftermarket.

If you're the kind of person who enjoys buying a highly specialized vehicle right from the showroom, the 2016 Chicago Auto Show is turning out to be just your cup of tea. First we were shown the new Camaro 1LE, now we find ourselves presented with the latest from the Toyota Racing Design team: the Tacoma TRD Pro.

Adding onto the already rugged Tacoma, the TRD designers have added a whole slew of heavy built components. They include but are not limited to a 16-inch TRD black alloy wheels, aluminum front skid plate, Rigid Industries LED fog lights and a heritage-inspired TOYOTA front grille, like the one on Marty McFly's dream truck.

Those extras are mostly for looks, though. Toyota added some more rough and tumble stuff too, including a 1-inch lift backed by heavy duty suspension and a four-wheel drive system. Sure, it's no Toyota UUV extreme minivan, but it's still pretty brawny.

What's great about the TRD Pro is that you can get it with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission — both of which are mated to the 3.5-Liter V6 engine. Like the other TRD Pros before it, you can get the Tacoma TRD Pro in one of three colors: Cement, Barcelona Red Metallic and Super White.

If you want to get your hands on the Tacoma TRD Pro, the built-in-Texas truck will he heading to showrooms this fall.
