Heartfelt, memorable, and funny, Padman: A Dad’s Guide to Buying . . . Those and Other Tales is a book to laugh over while the author’s survival stories also will inspire. In an effort to raise traumatic brain injury awareness, especially in the heat of so many deployed military service members bringing the war home, Padmansignals the beginning of Mark Elswick’s professional writing career.By donating a portion of the proceeds from each book to Brain Injury Association of America, Elswick is, as noted on his website, http://www.markelswick.com, “Making a difference, one book at a time!”
Nearly two decades ago, Elswick proved medical experts wrong when they said he would die following an automobile accident. Then, after a week of life support, he spent a month in a coma while doctors said he would live life as a vegetable if he ever regained consciousness. Surprisingly, not only did he survive, but he has gone on to write both seriously and humorously about his life as he is generating much-needed TBI awareness. In this eBook, which is dedicated to 24/7 TBI caregivers and military personnel, Elswick combines a lot of stress-relieving humor with an awakening glimpse into the world of traumatic brain injury survivors.
The first book by this nineteen-year TBI survivor, available as an eBook on amazon.com and BN.com for $4.95, contains eight comedic tales, many of which detail the everyday aspects of fatherhood. Impressively, these turned-hilarious instances have drawn a comparison to the phenomenal work of Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Dave Barry. In addition, there are two eye-opening TBI stories and a detailed day in a chemotherapy institute.
“Padman should be a mandatory read for all newlyweds and new fathers…
LOL funny…”
— Sherry Cooke, examiner.com
With TBI issues being a growing concern in America, the problem is about to explode to epic proportions. The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) reports that 1.7 million Americans receive a TBI each year, and 3.17 million people already live with a permanent disability as a result of a TBI. Medical care and lost wages associated with the injury account for $60 billion every year. On 2/23/11, the Deseret News reported of all deployed military heroes, “up to 20% of servicemen and women will incur a type of TBI.” With such staggering numbers in the near future, Padman, the precursor to Elswick’s 2012 release, Traumatic Brain Injury: Milestones in Recovery, is incredibly timely.
“His aim is true; he hits the mark....edutaining...
