Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney has stripped the captaincy off Benji Marshall in a bid to improve the playmaker's form.
New Zealand will have a new skipper for the Rugby League World Cup in England and Wales beginning in October.
Kearney says they need Marshall at his best and the extra responsibility of leading the side could hamper that.
NZRL General Manager of High Performance, Tony Kemp, says he's been a part of the decision and agrees with the coach.
He says Marshall gets hounded when he's in camp and they need him to be fully focused on rugby league because he's so integral to the side performing.
A new captain will be named tomorrow.
