New York State Troopers said a man died early Friday morning after a crash caused his tractor-trailer to start on fire near the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge in Tarrytown.

State Police said in a news release it responded to a motor vehicle crash in Tarrytown around 12:52 a.m. where a tractor trailer was on fire on one of the northbound lanes heading toward the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

State Police identified the driver and sole victim as 53-year-old Richard A. Simmons of Clifton Park. Police said Simmons struck a guiderail and a storage outbuilding, which may have caused the truck fire.
