COMMENTARY| Typically, You Tube isn't where I get my sports-related fix. However, since I've had some spare time on my hands the past couple days, I've discovered the joy of the video site. I've found some quality Michigan State Spartans football videos that I figured readers might like to know about.
First on the list is the highlight video of Michigan State's thrilling 37-31 win in October over the Wisconsin Badgers, who went on to down the Spartans in the Big Ten title game in December.
Keith Nichol, a player that I've kept close tabs on, caught one of the greatest passes in Spartans football history, successfully corralling a Hail Mary toss from quarterback Kirk Cousins. The game was full of action, and not just from Michigan State. I was particularly impressed with Wisconsin's Montee Ball, one of the best running backs to play in the Big Ten in the past 10 years.
It's a nice montage of big plays, relatively short and something to get Big Ten fans pumped for football season. While I like the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry, Michigan State-Wisconsin is quickly becoming one of the premier contests in the Big Ten.
Want to look back on the 2012 Outback Bowl? Michigan State beat the Georgia Bulldogs, 33-30 in overtime. The win validated what Spartans coach Mark Dantonio has said over the past seasons: Michigan State is a capable team that can play with most teams in the country, if not all of them.
The video is three hours long. If you want to watch every down, be my guest. But I suggest forwarding to some of Jerel Worthy and Denicos Allen's defensive stops. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was effective against the Spartans secondary, which bent, but didn't break. Murray is a star-in-the-making. You won't waste time watching him throw the ball... what an arm.
I thought the Michigan State "hype video" was well done. The camera work was great, the intro music was relaxing, and then boom... action. The only drawback was the song after the intro, some tune by Kanye West and Rihanna, maybe. I like to think that I listen to music with substance, and Kanye and Rihanna don't qualify as such -- to me, anyway. Something more up beat, by better artists, would have been easier to listen to. Either way, the video was pretty good. I suggest watching it with another song synched to the action. Your call.
The 2011 season highlight video was excellent. Better song, but I don't know who it's by. I don't listen to new rap, obviously. It started with Dan Conroy's field goal against Georgia, moved to Nichol's catch against Wisconsin and had a few play-call breaks to separate the action from the song, which was just OK. However, the song is worth suffering through to see Keshawn Martin rip a huge punt return against Northwestern. I want to see Michigan State football videos laced with a few Nas tracks, Boot Camp Click or old Cam'ron. Come on, You Tubers, help me out here.
