Turkish PM urges world to 'hear screams' of Syria

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's prime minister says the world must urgently "hear screams" from Syria and do something to stop the bloodshed.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan says measures must be taken for the safety of energy supplies as well as global peace. Erdogan did not specify any possible actions.

He spoke Thursday at an international energy conference in Istanbul.

However, he is calling on the international community to be sensitive to the plight of Syrian people as much as they were to the uprising in oil-rich Libya. He says the Syrian conflict posed a global threat.

Syrian President Bashar Assad's brutal repression of the 8-month-old Syrian uprising has left an estimated 3,500 dead and crippled the country's exports of heavy crude oil after the European Union banned oil imports from Syria.

Why not let Arabs eliminate each other? Today the world allows Arabs to commit much worse genocides on Black Africans in Darfur and in South Sudan. Arab on Arab violence should be welcome, the less of them the less Genocides they will engage in against Kurds, Christians, Druzee, Copts, African Blacks, Arameans. MIDDLE EAST REAL NATIVES LIBERATION FROM ISLAMONAZISM & ARABS ORGANIZATION
      • Wally 6 mths ago
Today the world allows blacks to commit horrible atrocities in the Congo and Zimbabwe... Today the world allows Asians to commit horrible atrocities in North Korea and Burma... Today the world allows Latinos to in Mexico and Colombia... And whites to in Belarus and parts of Russia... So give your garbage a rest already. If you want to completely generalize one group by the actions of some of them then you have to do the same for your own group or end up just a babbling hypocrite as you have. By your logic then let everyone eliminate each other.

Uh Arabs are supposted to be brothers like other Muslims and Christians! They have founded the Muslim religion and they should get along. But don't give any of the Turks any influence!

Didn`t Obama claim that Gaddoffi was the problem over there ? Seems to me then the Uproar over there would have stopped after Gaddoffi was DEAD RIGHT ? They may have condemed and murdered the wrong person ? Look at our corrupted government ! They sure lie alot and we know it ? So then why ? would we take there word for it ? Just a thought? Seems to me they was all pumped up after over throwing that government like winning a war ?They took that city by force right ? Remember the Fast & Furious scandle , I was told that was a set up as well . And it was ment to have a excuse to ban our weapons and take them away from us so we can`t defend our selves when those terrorest come to take this country CALLED AMERICA ? Does anyone else see this coming ?
      • FrankN 6 mths ago
The Turkish economy is based on Iraq and Iran primarily. Turkey exports alot of consumer goods regionally. In fact I would be suprised if Syria imported more in the way of Turkish goods then Israel pre Gaza stupidity on Turkeys part. Since unemployment in Syria is about the same as it is in the USA :}.... lol.

The Iranian Ayatollahs must be pooping their panties since they are about to lose another ally in Syria. I hope they spent billions proping up the Assad regime.

Ahhhhhh, there's the hand in the glove. The media keeps getting "democracy" mixed up with The Muslim Brotherhood and Islam. When dealing with English words used in a completely different region and culture, it's important to remember perhaps the word (ie, democracy) does not have the same meaning as you have understood.
      • Wally 6 mths ago
The very subject of this story, Turkey, is "Islamic" and a democracy. Likewise, radical groups such as the more radical Muslim Brotherhoods (many different groups) and Al-Qaeda continually and explicitly reject democracy, as anyone who can even read through mainstream media news stories will know. The media indeed has its problems, but illiterate people complaining about how literate ones write stories won't go far my friend.

The world is still hearing the scream of the 2 million Christian Armenians that were murdered by Muslim Turks in 1915. What hypocrisy.
    • art408  •  6 mths ago
This coming from a government that turns a blind eye to the millions of Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, etc that it butchered 100 years ago under the Ottoman Empire. The hypocrisy is disgusting.

No oil. Sad to say, we've become so desensitized, that nothing really turns our attention unless it affects our wallets. Of course we'll understand once the shoe is on the other foot.

The Middle Eastern Christians (non Arabs) who are the indigenous people of the Middle East and pre date Islam as in the Assyrians, Chaldean, Armenians are the ones who are getting the worst out of this.
Their churches are being bombed, Innocent people are dying, women being raped and murdered.
Woman kidnapped and forced in to marriage with a Muslims.
      These people are just lost.
And here in the US we give them a pass and I hear people say, oh you can't say that about Islam that's racism.

In reality there is not a lot Turks can do. Syria is not attacking Turkey. Period. There is no UN mandate anyways, not yet. At best maybe a secure zone a few miles deep.
