TV anchor got 70 stitches after on-air dog bite

I do feel badly for the reporter and wish her a speedy and complete recovery. However, I'm amazed that she got right in that dog's face, especially one that doesn't know her and more especially one the size of a mastiff, not to mention that the animal is in a strange place surrounded by strange people and lots of activity.

That just showed no good judgment at all, even if she didn't know enough about dog behavior to know that it was a very threatening and invasive action. Heck, someone gets into my face like that, I might bite them myself.

This is why so don't get so close to a strange dog... especially after it shows you its teeth.

She was doing a lot more than 'petting the dog's head.' Does the writer of this article forget that the video was all over the internet? She definitely WAS petting the dog's head...at the same time she leaned down into his face to talk 'baby talk' to him. That's when she got bit.

Never, never, never, ever put your face in a dog's face especially if it is not your dog. You are challenging them and getting too far into their space.

I am sorry she was hurt and I hope her a swift recovery.
For future reference:
When a dog is showing his teeth he is not smiling.
Do not stick your face into the face of a tooth-baring, strange dog.
That dog didn't bite her, he nipped her to tell her to get away from him. If she had been bit by that dog she would have needed more than 70 stitches.

She put her face down by the dog's face -- that's a threatening gesture to a dog if it doesn't know you. And so is petting them on top the head before they've had a chance to get to know you. I feel sorry for the reporter, but at the same time, try some common sense!

While I hope she heals, after watching this video, she was doing everything completely wrong with this dog. She was too close, petting a dog who doesn't know her and she doesn't know him. Then she leaned in, like, way too close to his face to be a stranger. People blame the dogs but they're only doing what's in their nature when they think they're in danger. When something is coming at your face, don't you throw your hands up to defend yourself?

If anyone noticed she also grabed the dog under the chin right before the bite. This might have been sore from some sort of injury received during his rescue struggle. In any instance you should never put you face in a strange dogs face. I am sorry for her pain, but it was totally her fault!

The lady just moved in way too close. Dog was operating on instinct. But, it's incredible the amount of damage a dog can do in a split second.

I'm so sorry Kyle Dyer had this horrible experience, but on the other hand, I am not angry at the dog. It had its own recent trauma, plus it was placed in the unfamiliar studio atmosphere. This whole story is an unfortunate series of events.

I can't believe the people on here saying that the dog should be put down. I certainly hope that no one makes such a ridiculous decision. It is a true shame what happened to this news anchor. She did not realize that she should not put her face in the dog's face. It is a horrible accident. The dog should not be held "accountable" for this with its life. It is up to humans to make informed and smart decisions, and unfortunately, bear the brunt of not doing so.

the dog was trying to warn her , unfortunately she did not recognize the warning, it was also sad because she obviously love's animals and was genuinely happy for the dog that all turned out well in the rescue .

Was going to say dogs are a good judge of character and TV anchors are an insincere lot. Instead, I'll say it's an anchor's job to know who she is "interviewing" and she should have known to NEVER put her face in a strange dog's face. It's NOT the dogs fault. It's the anchors fault. She'll heal. Hope the dog was not euthanized.
