    TV: Saudi posts $59.7B surplus in 2011

    RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabian state television says the oil-rich kingdom posted a nearly $60 billion budget surplus in 2011.

    State television said Monday that the country is projecting a much smaller 12 billion riyal ($3 billion) budget surplus in the coming year, with revenues at 702 billion riyals and expenditures forecast at 690 billion riyals.

    In 2011, the OPEC kingpin posted a surplus of 224 billion riyals ($59.7 billion) — a gain realized on the back on increased oil sales as it upped its output to offset declines from Libya.

    King Abdullah announced a roughly $130 billion spending plan early in the year, benefiting lower income segments of the population. The move came as a wave of popular unrest swept through the Arab world.

      No wonder the Saudis have a surplus. The people who live there are in fear of speaking out against their government. They just beheaded a woman in Saudi Arabia for sorcery three weeks ago and not a word from America, but as soon as Iran plans on stoning a woman to death for adultery, you have every conservative preacher and politician saying that Iran is the barbaric country. This Canadian oil pipeline isn't the answer, but we do need to create alternative energy because the oil will not last forever.

      They need that money to investigate wrong doers like the woman put to death for practicing sorcery this month. All I want for 2012 is gas prices to drop back to 1988 levels - remember when gas was under$1 a gallon and stayed that way for almost a decade when oil prices plummeted? We didn't hear much out of the middle east either.

        Yea but theres nothing we can do about it but grab an OWS sign or yell "Big Govt Spending must end" on other side? There has to be another solution transcending partisan #$%$..we cannot become Greece. And we cant let the U.N. take over nor change our soveirgn currency. But we can't default neither. Wat a troubling Catch 22. Between Barack and a Hard Place..haha o man.. : (

      Well, now you can plainly see where our deficit is going! We have more oil here than they have in all of the Middle East, but why are we not exploiting? If we ever want to wean ourselves off of the Middle East oil we're going to need to build the pipeline from Canada down to the Gulf Coast. It would be nice to say that we could use alternative fuels but at this point that is not an option in the main infrastructure, however, that doesn't mean we can't work towards that. But in order to us to save our economy and our dependency on oil. We have to utilize what we have and not giving the money to foreign countries.

      Sounds like our politicians when they need more votes. "The move came as a wave of popular unrest swept through the Arab world." Throw money at the poor and it all looks good. I guess King Abdullah is running scared he might have an uprising if he keeps it all to himself like they usually do. Poor fellow might have to give up one of his wives.

      If all you do is feed a man then he learns nothing, but if you teach him to feed himself he will never go hungry.

      Did you know we(our country,the good ol' USA ) exported 3.6% of our oil ? The middle-east sends most of their oil to Europe,not the U.S.,like the manipulated news media or the gov't wants us to believe.The Bakken Oil Shale Reserves have over twice the amount of oil than all of the middle-east has combined.Not to mention a new oil field has been found in Texas.We have more oil in our country to satisfy our needs for thousands of years.We have been lied to about this oil business,that we have to protect the oil over there.What a crock of s---!Another reason gas has gone up in price is,INFLATION ! So,now we should blame the Fed.Reserve.But,when people go grocery shopping they don't #$%$ about why a bottle of steak sauce costs $7.99,whereas 3 or 4 years ago,it was $3.99.The Federal Reserve is killing us !!!!!!!!

      Despite their hatred for us, we feed, clothe, and house their people with our oil buying. They should be thanking us, not building terrorist camps.

        Just to make it clear for you David. I am Saudi and We dont hate America, dont blame all the people over there because a few terrorists. Have you ever asked yourself why Bin laden was in Afghanistan not in Saudi despite he was born in Saudi and had the Saudi nationality. The majority of people in SA dont like Bin laden and dont agree with his thoughts. For me, I will forever love America even if some people like you discriminate us
