TVLine Items: HBO Eyeing Watchmen Series, Fishburne as Mandela and More

Sometime in the not-too-distant future, you just might see Rorschach, Nite Owl, Dr. Manhattan, Silk Spectre II and Ozymandias on HBO.

The premium cabler has confirmed it is in talks to develop Watchmen — the DC Comics series adapted into a 2009 film — for television.

Not many details of the project are available, but HBO is reportedly teaming with Zack Snyder, who directed the movie, to adapt Watchmen as a TV series.

In a statement to Collider, which first broke the news, HBO revealed that “preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place.”

* black-ish star Laurence Fishburne will play the late revolutionary Nelson Mandela in Madiba, a six-hour BET miniseries centering on Mandela in the 1960s as he deals with political unrest in South Africa.

* Kelly LeBrock (Weird Science) will recur on Shameless‘ sixth season as Sammi’s mother, Queenie — an earthy, sensual, flamboyant and joyous woman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
