Twenty One Pilots Displaces ‘Pitch Perfect 2′ Soundtrack From Billboard Top Spot

Twenty One Pilots nabbed its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 sales chart for the week ending May 31, according to data from Nielsen Music. “Blurryface” is the duo’s fourth album, moving 146,000 units after its May 18 release.

“Blurryface” debuted atop last week’s chart-topper, the “Pitch Perfect 2” soundtrack, knocking down the film’s a capella covers 31% to No. 3 in its second week, with 74,000 units moved.

Taylor Swift’s “1989” album made a major bounce back into the No. 2 position following the “Bad Blood” video premiere at last week’s Billboard Music Awards. Her album sales moved 91,000 units this week, gaining 146%, making it her best weekly sum since February. Swift no longer puts her music on streaming services like Spotify, which could have bolstered her into the top spot once again.

Another beneficiary of last week’s Billboard Music Awards was winner Meghan Trainor’s “Title,” which sprang into the No. 5 spot. Nominees Ed Sheeran and Brantley Gilbert didn’t take any awards home at the end of the night, but Sheeran’s “x” climbed 20% to No. 7 with 38,000 units moved and Brantley’s “Just as I Am” jumped from No. 69 to No. 6, up 358% with 39,000 units.

The chart saw a couple of additions week including Zedd and Jamie Foxx. Zedd’s “True Colors” landed at No. 4 with 50,000 units, and Foxx gained his fourth top 10 debut with “Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen” arriving at No. 9 with 39,000 units.

Other soundtracks on the list include “Furious 7,” dropping to No. 8, and “Fifty Shades of Grey” rounding out the top 10.
