Here’s how Twitter is finally attempting to cut down on harassment
Twitter has been under fire for the past several months for failing to provide adequate tools to fight harassment on its social network. The company has recently admitted to its shortcomings, and in an attempt to make the website a safer place to interact with other users, it’s testing a new “quality filter” to block notifications that contain abusive or offensive content.

Anil Dash was the first to share the news after he was prompted by Twitter to turn the setting on after opening the app on his phone on Monday. Here is the description he was presented with:
“Quality filtering aims to remove all Tweets from your notifications timeline that contain threats, offensive or abusive language, duplicate content, or are sent from suspicious accounts.”
Speaking with The Verge, a Twitter spokesperson confirmed that the feature is currently only available to verified users, and functions similarly to the “tailored” notifications that were already available to these users.
There’s no denying that this is a step in the right direction, but the sooner every user has access to these tools, the better.
