Twitter introduces new mobile app for BlackBerry

Twitter has released an updated version of its mobile phone app for smartphones running Research In Motion’s BlackBerry platform.

The new app enables users to link their Twitter account with RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service so they can write one message and share it twice.

Contacts’ Twitter accounts are also integrated with BBM profiles making it easier to connect with others on the social network.

Sharing has been given an overhaul within the new app too. “Twitter for BlackBerry makes it easier to share links to web pages directly from the browser. When you tweet a link it will automatically be shortened so it takes up fewer characters. And, you can upload photos to Twitter (pic.twitter.com) right from your device’s camera or when writing your Tweets,” announced Twitter on its official blog.

In 2011 Apple announced it would bring deep Twitter integration to iOS devices enabling users to instantly tweet photos, web links, videos and maps on their device without having to open the mobile app and sign in.

The latest version of Twitter for BlackBerry is available now as a free download from RIM’s BlackBerry App World.
