After 2 died in Wilmington Saturday morning collision, 1 remains in stable condition

The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a car crash that claimed two lives early Saturday morning.

According to a Monday news release from the Wilmington Police Department, Joseph Tocci, 23, and Kayla Ricks, 28, both of Wilmington, died in the crash that happened around 1:43 a.m. Tocci was believed to be the driver of the vehicle that claimed both lives, the release said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Alfred Pattison Jr., 42, of Wilmington, was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Pattison's condition has been upgraded from severe to stable.

According to a Saturday news release, officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Eastwood and Military Cutoff roads where two vehicles had collided.

The collision is being investigated, and additional details will be released as they become available.
