Two hospitalized after Lauderhill home fire, six others displaced

A woman and her husband are in the hospital Monday night being treated for smoke inhalation after a home in Lauderhill caught fire, and they and six others who lived there are now displaced.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue went to the home in the 33000 block of Northwest 8th Place shortly after 7:30 p.m., finding heavy flames upon their arrival, Deputy Chief Jeff Levy said. Firefighters rescued the elderly woman from the home. Her husband got out and did not need to be rescued.

They were taken to Broward Health Medical Center and were in stable condition, Levy said late Monday. It was not immediately clear whether the two other adults and the four children who also lived in the home were inside at the time of the fire.

Investigators were on scene late Monday to determine what caused the fire, and the American Red Cross will assist the eight people who lived in the home, Levy said.
