Two piglets, barn and camper lost overnight in Delta Co. fire

WELLS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJMN) — First responders were called out shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday night for a blazing barn fire just west of Escanaba.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety reports a metal barn and adjacent camper were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived to the property on 18th Road in Wells Township, and the fire appeared to be spreading into the woods.

We’re told firefighters were able to control the flames and stop the fire’s spread. Both the barn and camper were a total loss and two piglets perished. All other animals, including horses, chickens and ducks survived.

Firefighters were on scene for about two and a half hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
