Two very different Nexus X models might launch this year

Unlike in previous years when it only released one Nexus smartphone at a time, Google might be changing its tune this year as the company may have plans to launch two different sized Nexus X models, both made by Motorola.

Phone Arena reports that Motorola is apparently testing 5.9-inch and 5.2-inch versions of the Moto S, and the one that will actually launch depends on the public’s reaction to the upcoming Moto X+1 flagship handset.

“A source close to the supply chain,” claims that Google will pick up the unused devices, and launch a second Nexus X this year, specifically the smaller, 5.2-inch Moto S version that it would repurpose for its Nexus needs.

The main Nexus X smartphone will reportedly pack a 5.9-inch display, as seen in previous reports and leaks. But at the same time, some of the recent Nexus X leaks also pointed to the existence of a 5.2-inch Nexus X handset, causing confusion and casting doubts on these newer leaks.

Google is expected to quietly launch the Motorola-made Nexus X handset by Halloween, likely alongside the release of the Android L operating system.

It’s not clear if such Google plans have anything to do with the fact that, for the firs time ever, Apple will also launch two different sized iPhone models this year, both bigger than their predecessors.
