Tyler Perry Announces Future Site Of His New Studios
The man behind the Madea franchise and the biggest series on OWN took to social media tonight to confirm that the shuttered Army base that he bought this year will be the future home of Tyler Perry Studios:

Perry didn’t offer a timeline for when his studios might open, but he plans to continue business as usual at his current production facilities — a 200,000-square-foot complex in southwest Atlanta that includes five soundstages and a 400-seat theater. Perry shoots all of his projects there, including the four series he produces for OWN: For Better Or Worse, The Haves And Have Nots, Love Thy Neighbor and If Loving You Is Wrong. A simulated streetscape at Tyler Perry Studios was devastated by a major fire in May 2012, which caused one building in the complex to collapse. Less than four months later, a second fire broke out on the roof of another building. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Fort McPherson Army Base in Atlanta closed in 2011 after having been in use since it opened in 1885. Forty buildings that sit on its 33-acre historic district are recognized in the National Registry of Historic Places. Perry didn’t provide details of his plans for the facility but said on Facebook today, “I’ll keep you posted on the progress.” Here’s his full post on the social media site:
