U.S. Government: Joe Biden had nothing to do with Megaupload shut down or Kim Dotcom’s arrest

Sorry, Kim Dotcom — it seems you aren’t important enough to warrant Vice President Biden’s attention after all. The Daily Caller reports that both the United States government and the Motion Picture Association of America have denied Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom’s accusations that Biden had anything to do with the shutdown of Megaupload earlier this year. In a statement sent to the Caller, the MPAA said that while current MPAA lobbyist and former Democratic Senator Chris Dodd did meet with Biden in 2011 to discuss policy, the two men never talked about websites such as Megaupload that have drawn the ire of Hollywood for being dens of piracy.

“The purpose of this meeting with the Vice President was to discuss his upcoming trip to China last August and the importance of reaching a settlement with the Chinese government of the United States WTO complaint against China, which would increase the number of foreign films permitted into that country and provide a better share of box office revenues,” said the MPAA explained.

Such denials are unlikely to quiet the always-colorful Dotcom, however, as the Megaupload founder last week insisted that he had more details to back up his accusations and said that he “plans to release them when the time is appropriate.”
