By Elias Biryabarema KAMPALA (Reuters) - Uganda exported 264,611 60-kg bags of coffee in June, down 27 percent from a year earlier, regulator Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) said on Wednesday. Coffee exports earned $32.8 million, down from $42.7 million in June 2013, UCDA said in a report. UCDA did not give a reason for the fall in exports but an industry expert blamed drought which he said had affected the crop in western Uganda during flowering and bean formation. “I think the impact of that drought is now showing up in the marked decline in volumes being harvested,” said David Muwonge, head of marketing and production at the National Union of Coffee Agribusinesses and Farm Enterprises (NUCAFE). Uganda's coffee exports in the first nine months of the coffee year 2013/14, which runs October to September, totalled 2.7 million bags, up from 2.6 million exported in the same period a year earlier, UCDA said.
