UK recalls ambassador to Syria for consultations

LONDON (AP) — Britain has recalled its ambassador from Syria for consultations on the escalating violence in the country, Foreign Secretary William Hague said Monday. The decision was announced after the U.S. said it has closed its embassy in Damascus and pulled all American diplomats out of Syria.

Hague told lawmakers that Britain is using multiple channels to express its "abhorrence" at the violent crackdown on dissent by President Bashar Assad's regime, and has summoned Syria's ambassador to the Foreign Office to convey that message.

"This is a doomed regime as well as a murdering regime," Hague said. "There is no way it can recover its credibility internationally."

The Assad regime's crackdown on anti-government protesters has left thousands dead over the past year.

Hague slammed the decision by Russia and China to veto a United Nations Security Council resolution aimed at stemming the bloodshed, but said Britain will continue working to bring an end to the "utterly unacceptable" situation.

Outlining steps forward, Hague said the U.K. will continue its strong support of the Arab League and seek to widen the coalition of nations seeking a lasting and peaceful resolution in Syria.

Britain also will intensity its contact with members of the Syrian opposition, Hague said.

The west cannot solve the problems in the Middle East until the west starts to view the Middle East through religious eyes, which shall never happen. It is very simple for countries like Iran, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and etc. etc. to infuriate their countrymen against the west. Sadly a majority of westerners have not only taken their lives and freedoms for granted, but live lives that many Middle Eastern countries find not only offensive, but potentially bad in influencing their own populace: sin. So basically countries like Iran do not "hate" any specific western country, but the moral character of that western country's people. Countries like Iran have manipulated this ideology to keep power within their borders. In essence, two wrongs do not make a right. In the end man does not have the right to be judge and jury against another. That solely lies in the hands of God. Sadly the US assumes that dealing with countries like Iran requires a military hand which only leaves long lingering affects that never get resolved. The Iranian people want freedom, but as long as western countries punish the Iranian government, the Iranian people will be punished as well and the Iranian government will use this to their advantage. Sadly this will never take place so war and more war will continue until the man upstairs has had absolutely enough and already I believe he has....

I watched with a broken heart the young people of Iran rise up unsuccessfully. That was much different than what is occurring now and what happened in Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt. The young people truly wanted freedom and probably could have lived in harmony among others with different religious beliefs. Obama did not support them. He choose to back radical islamists in the aforementioned "Arab Spring" countries. Restrictive, punishing, oppressive muslim regimes that will bring more misery than anyone could possible fathom. The question is what is Obama and his administrations' true goal? In my opinion, he is working against the safety and security of America by backing the wrong side now THREE TIMES.

Just watched a report on CNN stating that Syrian Ambassador Ford thought al qaeda was in the country. al qaeda is the offspring of the muslim brotherhood. It is a major player in the supposed opposition to Bashar Assad. Over the last week many posters in these articles have warned that these "freedom-fighters" are nothing more than illegitimate, violent insurgents trying to establish an extreme islamic state. A lot of the opposition are foreigners entering Syria. Statements by those fleeing the US embassy are reflecting that sentiment. A day late and a dollar short. Unfortunately, my government has been inadvertently helping al qaeda by using UN resolutions to have Assad step down. For the protection of the minorities and secular in Syria who would like to live among one another in relative peace, may Assad hold fast to power.
