UK ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Trailer Elevates JK Simmons’ Profile
Paramount’s UK trailer for the latest Terminator iteration gives some well-deserved screen time to recent Best Supporting Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, who plays a sympathetic detective. It’s no wonder that they have featured Simmons prominently as his little film Whiplash is doing well overseas, especially in South Korea – a surprise, given the market’s penchant for tentpole actioners. Whiplash took the No. 1 spot in the all-important territory last weekend. In addition to Simmons, the movie won two other Oscars, for editing and sound mixing. The film has made about $20M overseas so far, per Rentrak, and is far from ending its run.
Directed by Alan Taylor, the latest Terminator timeline also features Arnold Schwarzenegger (natch), Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conner, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke as John Connor. Terminator: Genisys opens July 1.
