    UK Viewers Will Be Able to Watch the London 2012 Olympics in 3D [VIDEO]

    The London 2012 Olympics are going 3D in the UK -- or a few parts of it at least. The BBC has announced that BBC HD viewers who have 3D televisions will be able to watch the opening ceremony, closing ceremony, men's 100m final and daily highlights in 3D.

    "We've chosen these events partly because they mark the pinnacles of the Games but also to minimize the loss of HD that is a consequence of our 3D service," Roger Mosey, the BBC's director of London 2012, wrote in a blog post.

    The BBC is the UK's host broadcaster for the 2012 Olympics, and it has promised to provide live coverage of all events across multiple platforms including TV, mobile and online.

    Mosey said it's the broadcaster's aim "to showcase 3D for the biggest moments but to preserve choice in a world of conflicting demands." The original announcement that some of the Games might be aired in 3D generated some "polarized comments." But this trial should give the BBC an idea of how audiences embrace 3D.

    Panasonic and NBC Universal have formed a partnership to bring 3D imagery to broadcasts of the London 2012 Olympics to the U.S. too.
