Ukraine prosecutors to seek Yanukovych extradition

SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine's Prosecutor General says it is preparing to seek extradition of fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych, who is believed to be in Russia.

Prosecutors said in a statement Friday that Yanukovych is wanted on suspicion of mass murder in last week's violent clashes between protesters and police, in which more than 80 people were killed.

Yanukovych fled the capital Kiev last Friday, after anti-government protesters seized control of the capital and parliament. He was last seen in public on Saturday, making a televised statement in which he said he continued to be Ukraine's legitimate president and did not recognize any moves of the new government.
