Ukrainian president accepts PM's resignation

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine's president has accepted the prime minister's resignation but has asked him to stay on in an acting role until a new government is formed.

The departure of Mykola Azarov as premier would remove one of the figures most disliked by opposition forces whose protests have gripped the Ukrainian capital for two months.

A statement on President Viktor Yanukovych's website Tuesday, hours after Azarov announced he would resign, did not say when a new government was expected to begin work.
