UN demands end to Israel demolitions in West Bank

The United Nations has called on Israel to immediately halt the destruction of Palestinian homes in the West Bank after reporting a dramatic rise in demolitions in the past year.

Israeli forces destroyed 622 Palestinian homes in the West Bank in 2011, "forcibly displacing" almost 1,100 people, over half of them children, according to a UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report.

"The current policy and practice of demolitions cause extensive human suffering and should end," UN humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories, Maxwell Gaylard, said late Friday.

Palestinians have refused to return to direct negotiations with Israel because of Israeli settlement in the occupied territories. The report was released just ahead of a visit to Jerusalem and Ramallah next week by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Gaylard said the demolition figures represent a "dramatic" increase on previous years and that tens of thousands of people remain under threat of dispossession, demolition and displacement.

Israel says it only demolishes structures that have been built without required permission. Palestinians say they are rarely granted permits.

Gaylard said he went on Thursday to the village of Anata near Jerusalem where seven Palestinian homes were demolished this week.

"He was informed that bulldozers and troops had arrived in the middle of the night of 23 January and that 52 people, including 29 children, had been forced from their homes, which were then completely destroyed," said a UN statement.

The operation was carried out on Monday night. The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) said Israeli forces demolished Beit Arabiya, a family home and "peace centre" at Anata, that has now been destroyed five times since 1994. Israel's administration for the West Bank said the homes had no permit.

Why does the UN take serious actions against Iran and Syria but not on Israel?

This is ethno-religious cleansing by the Israeli Likud done piece-meal with a gradualist approach in hopes international outrage can be muted and under the perspective that time is on their side if they can posture for peace while making certain it never comes to pass. Netanyahu opposed the Oslo Accords and is a Revisionist Zionist who's always opposed a two state solution. His strident cries about Israel's security needs are Likud double speak for land grab.

More people in the West need to realize the conflict in order to judge who is the belligerent and who is the victim. Israel is always portrayed as a victim in our own media outlets, aside from the internet.

Why do these brave demolitionists fear to take down the illegal structures of the Israeli settlers but never miss levelling Palestinian homes?

I expect the Israelis would not object to any "Palestinian" leaving Israel and joining their Arab brothers in any Arab country they choose. No doubt they would recieve better treatment there, and would be more comfortable among their own people.

      Date: 8, September 03, at 7:58 p.m.
Here is a list of UN resolutions that Israel has not complied with, far more than Iraq. Note that she has also illegally developed nuclear weapons. Further, the situation is far worse than would at first appear, it involves the serious distortion of the official Security Council record by the profligate use by the United States of its veto power. (See Table) Israel's, defiance goes back to its very beginnings. This collection of resolutions criticizing Israel is unmatched by the record of any other nation as Israel stands in violation of more UN resolutions than ANY OTHER NATION ON EARTH.
A list of UN Resolutions against "Israel" 1955-1992: *

      Resolution 162: " . . . 'urges' Israel to comply with UN decisions". *
Resolution 171: " . . . determines flagrant violations' by Israel in its attack on Syria". Resolution 228: " . . . 'censures' Israel for its attack on Samu in the West Bank, then under Jordanian control". *
Resolution 237: " . . . 'urges' Israel to allow return of new 1967 Palestinian refugees". Resolution 248: " . . . 'condemns' Israel for its massive attack on Karameh in Jordan". *

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- The U.S. Secret Service is looking into a controversial column by an Atlanta Jewish newspaper publisher that mulled the assassination of an American president.
Andrew Adler, owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, wrote a January 13 column about the threat of Iran to Israel. He posed three options for the Jewish state to counter the Iranian regime.
One of them called for a "hit on a president in order to preserve Israel's existence."
"Give the go-ahead for U.S. based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place and forcefully dictate that the United States' policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies."
U.S. Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie told CNN Saturday, "We are aware of it. We are taking the appropriate investigative steps."

Israeli government makes me vomit. When they were not executed a man who rips a baby out its mothers arms and bashes it head against the wall is sick. How many murders Israeli government let loose. To get one Israeli soldier back. If that does not make one sick. Were the justice for those who are murdered

The Ramat Migron is merely a motley collection of transient structures attached to the main outpost of Migron, which was supposed to have been demolished over 9 years ago as ruled by the court as it has been built on privately owned Palestinian land. Ramat Migron has been demolished and put back up repeatedly. It is merely a little game played by settlers and IDF forces. That tawdry little collection of shacks will be back up very soon.
