    University of Minnesota Launches Web Accessibility Program with HiSoftware

    UMN Chooses HiSoftware for evaluating compliance with its Accessibility of Information Technology Policy and Standards.

    HiSoftware Inc., a provider of content-aware compliance and security solutions, today announced that the University of Minnesota (UMN) has embarked on an initial roll-out of HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff® for evaluating and monitoring accessibility across university Web pages.

    HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff provides automated content monitoring solutions for accessibility compliance, privacy, data and information security, site quality and brand integrity. With colleges and universities relying heavily on intranets and websites as communication hubs and portals to academic services, all members of higher education institutions, students, faculty and staff, must be able to access these online tools and resources. For this reason, UMN is partnering with HiSoftware to ensure that its websites follow accessibility compliance standards and guidelines at all times.

    “The University of Minnesota is committed to providing equal access to information technology, services, and environments in which information technology is used as reflected in its Accessibility of Information Technology (AIT) policy and standards,” said Peggy Mann Rinehart, Associate Director, Disability Services. “Our Computer Accommodations Program will spend the next year developing a template that mirrors the AIT standards and testing the software with partners that represent a variety of University of Minnesota colleges and departments.”

    To meet the needs of UMN, HiSoftware worked with the Computer Accommodations Program to develop a plan for automating the detection of AIT policy violations. With a combination of standard testing requirements, systemwide tool deployment and effective training, HiSoftware will ensure that UMN websites are accessible to all.
