Unseen Jackson film valued at $6-8 million goes unsold

LONDON (Reuters) - Previously unseen footage of Michael Jackson's 1993 "Dangerous" tour, which had been expected to fetch 4-5 million pounds ($6.2-7.8 million) failed to sell at auction in Britain on Saturday.

"At this stage it has not sold," said a spokesman for The Fame Bureau auctioneers, who specialize in pop memorabilia. "We are still talking to people, but online it did not sell."

He said he was confident a buyer would be found, although "nothing is a certainty."

The auction house said it had been forced to remove a brief clip of the video from its website before the online auction after Jackson's record label made a "copyright claim."

The fact that a successful buyer may not be able to use the film for commercial purposes may have dampened demand given the hefty asking price, but the spokesman played down the copyright dispute.

"I don't think that was a problem at all," he said, adding that any serious potential buyer would be fully aware of the issue.

Nearly two hours long, the footage was shot by Jackson's own production crew and meant to be an intimate portrait of Jackson on tour.

But the singer was unhappy with the quality and gave the only copy to his driver, who was now trying to sell the footage, the auction house said.

It was made during Jackson's "Dangerous" tour in 1993 at a stop in Argentina.

A DVD of the "Dangerous" concert tour, filmed in Bucharest, was released in 2005 and is still available on Amazon.com and other retailers for about $12.

Items related to Jackson have skyrocketed in value since his death in 2009.

The red and black leather jacket he wore for his 1983 "Thriller" video sold for $1.8 million in Los Angeles in June.

Problems selling it because it was bad quality, just as MJ didnt want it either. Also, the perfect DVD quality (copy) has already been selling on Amazon.

Duh. The driver should just negotiate with Sony and the Estate. Doesn't say much about the brights (or lack of) of the auction house. The auction house was just looking for a big commission and advised their client badly and without integrity.

The only reason anyone would buy it is to profit from it, so if copyrights forbid it, no one will be buying this.

People just need to leave Michael be.

I find this #$%$ to be the funniest #$%$ in America. You people come up here thinking that if you bash MJ it would make you look good, but it don't. When I look up pathetic in the dictionary all I see are these exact words: Pathetic- deserving of pity; MJ haters.

Some people actually have more sense than money, thank goodness. Only a fool would pay what they are asking.

Hi everyone this is going to be short and sweet don't you guys think that the problem has always been there long before this accured meaning the drugs? it could have not just only been this guy it also could be that Jackson had demons he was dealing with starting from his family and the changing the way he look that much work done on a body causes pain the family was cut off so now all want to get paid, i think that is wrong remember the song Black or white so maybe he was hiding from himself to get away from some of the things of his family he no longer wanted to look like them hmmmmmm everyone uesed him and he knew it but maybe now he can rest in peace and lord please take care of the kids he have not to be caught up in the mess that is about to become drama

Perhaps now that he is dead, he's not really as popular as people thought. I wouldn't give a red cent for any MJ memorabilia!

I would bit it $20. That is all it would be worth to me for an 18 year old movie of a dead pop star.

I am from Indiana. I can moonwalk just fine me and my Cherokee self okay folks BUT..Mike owed loads and loads of money. For years if you research. He did not deserve to die like he did and the doc only got two years for it BUT I am not surprised this did not sell. I honestly believe what Lisa Marie said about him being another person when cameras were off and I believe he molested lots of kids even famous ones so he is not the best person. His stuff is not all that. he was a druggie in the end and died leaving his kids. that is that. they need to learn how to work and not follow dad and make there own money or they will be just like him and people thinking they have money when they do not. Lets just stop talking about the creep once and for all really WHOLE WORLD....

It's funny how people could come up here on Yahoo and talk #$%$ about MJ when they haven't done nothing for themselves. Their whole lives are based on calling MJ a pedophile when the man was found not guilty. The person you need to call a pedophile is the Penn State coach, but I guess he gets off the hook cause he's white. And for the person who said MJ had no talent, the artist today have no talent. MJ copied no one, he could sing, he could dance, and became greater than those who came before him. I guess that's the thing about haters, bring others down to make themselves feel better. Like they always say I let my haters be my motivators and MJ did just that.
