Up Chuck Slump: Mark Ronson Reveals Uptown Funk Made Him Sick And Bald

His Uptown Funk may be the biggest hit of the decade and made him millions – but writing it made Mark Ronson so sick he ended up slumped ill in a toilet with his hair falling out.

The 40-year-old producer, who performed at yesterdays’ Super Bowl 50 half-time show, got so anxious while he spent six months perfecting the final cut of the record he once collapsed in a restaurant and suffered severe anxiety.

Mark – worth around £200million – said: “I had everything going on – — hair loss, anxiety attacks, vomiting and finally collapsing in a restaurant.” The smash was conceived in “literally seconds of inspiration” at the studio of Ronson’s collaborator on the four-and-a-half minute hit, Bruno Mars, and songwriter Jeff Bhasker.

Half a year on and Ronson was sitting with 54 different versions and an incomplete record, before it was finally released in November 2014.

He didn’t look ill during his Super Bowl set…

Mark added: “Jeff suggested going to a restaurant and then he asked me if I was OK because I looked incredibly white in the face. I went to the toilets and just started vomiting – then I collapsed.”

It worked out alright in the end and was worth Ronson losing an inch of his hairline – Uptown Funk has had more than 1.3 billion YouTube hits, broke physical sales records and earned its creators almost £2million in publishing royalties.

Some fans are agreeing with Ronson – pointing out ear worm Uptown Funk made them sick as well.

One wit write on Twitter after reading his admissions: “Same.”
