US Airways gets rights to operate daily flights between Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Charlotte, NC

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- US Airways said Monday that the Department of Transportation tentatively awarded it permanent rights to operate daily, year-round flights between Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the airline's hub in Charlotte, N.C.

The airline's service between Charlotte and Sao Paulo, which began earlier this month, currently uses temporary slots leased from another carrier.

The airline said its new service to Sao Paulo complements existing service between Charlotte and Rio de Janeiro.

Shares of US Airways Group Inc. fell 18 cents to $16.01 in afternoon trading.
