US citizen slain in Bahamas; 2 US men charged

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Two U.S. citizens have been charged in the stabbing death of another U.S. citizen following a fight on the island of Bimini, authorities in the island chain said Monday.

Tyler Valles, 19, of Key Largo, Florida, and Robert Schwartz, 62, of Gaylordsville, Connecticut, were charged with manslaughter, said Asst. Commissioner Emrick Seymour of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

A judge set bail for the men at $35,000 and ordered them to appear for trial May 19. They did not enter pleas.

The two men were charged in the death of Carl Yerger, 45, of Ruscombmanor Township, Pennsylvania, whose body was found Friday on the grounds of a resort and marina on Bimini, a Bahamian island known as a sport fishing and diving destination east of Florida.

Police did not release details but Seymour said the three men allegedly argued after Yerger allegedly sought to board the other men's boat without their permission.
