US official in Libya cites 230 security incidents

WASHINGTON (AP) — A top State Department security official in Libya told a congressional investigator that he had wanted more security in the weeks before the U.S. ambassador was killed in Benghazi. But, he said, the department instead wanted to "normalize operations."

An email written this month by Eric Nordstrom also referred to a separate document that detailed 230 security incidents in the country between June 2011 and July 2012.

The list of the incidents was obtained from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The panel is conducting a hearing Wednesday on security at U.S. diplomatic facilities in Libya.
