Nuance Communications (NasdaqGS: NUAN - news) edged higher after the provider of voice applications to corporate customers forecast first-quarter earnings that exceeded market expectations.
Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI - news) gained after the maker of walkie-talkies and rugged mobile computers reported a slight rise in quarterly profit, driven by higher government sales.
BlackBerry (Berlin: RI1.BE - news) rallied as the struggling smartphone maker said it plans to sell most of its Canadian real estate to raise cash for its turnaround plan.
On the macro-front, the only notable release in the US will be mortgage applications for the week to January 17th. However, tomorrow will be busier with reports on jobless claims, manufacturing and housing out.
