US says tax-related ID theft complaints on rise

And I am being sue for $17,542 on a credit card I never owned!
Man, what happened to America? This place is starting to suck!

I worked for 31 years as a county cop. I would routinely come across illegal aliens with fake immigration cards and fake social security cards / numbers. I would arrest them for the state charges and the ICE (Immigration Agents) could care less about deporting them. The state prosecutors didn't want to flood the system with these types of cases and knew it was a "Hot Potato" issue with politically correct types... Most of the time nothing was done to the (UDA / Illegal Alien) and they just returned to the streets to continue their activities. It's as simple as Juan Doe comes here illegally and buys a fake immigration card and social security card with bogus number. The bogus number is yours and after a while he's worked a few jobs where taxes were paid. Then he gets some credit - all of it bad. Now the true owner of the social security number now has tax problems and credit issues. Believe me; ICE, the IRS Special Agents and Investigators for Social Security don't care!!!

I get "phishing" Emails on a daily basis telling me that I have been penalized for late filing..according to them, by Jan 31. Not too well done, as the tax deadline is traditionally the 15th of April..the 17th this year. I just forward them to the IRS fraud/phishing site for their examination.. But a modest fee, of course, will save my sorry butt. And supplying them with all the info they want. To history buffs, the 15th of April is the date Lincoln died, Titanic went down, and Caesar was assassinated..Figures that the Govt would pick this date out as being 'disaster" day.

Oh well. That's okay. We'll still keep all 12 million illegals here in this country and give them all the perks and entitlements they want. ID theft? So What? Vote? Sure come on down to the polling stations, don't show us proof that you are an American, that would be foolish and against your rights; take a ballot and go ahead and vote for the guy who promises to give you everything you want because we are stupid #$%$ gringos!

IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK that our Federal Government police the rampant misuse of Social Security numbers?! The Social Security number is the closest thing we have to a national ID card, but nobody polices it. The SSA says it's not supposed to be used for ID but that's like QTips saying they shouldn't be put in your ear.

Now if we can just get a grip on the Government stealing from the taxpayer!

Lets see.....Can't stop the illigals from stealing the weatlh and dignity, can't stop drugs in our shools, can't take bake our cities from the cluthes of criminal gangs, but have run all over the world to do WHAT???? Who the heck this congress and the presidnet are reporting to? Not the American people, that is for sure.

What is the IRS doing about the fraud? What is the IRS doing about "charitable" organizations that are political in nature? If the IRS would concentrate on those two issues, they would stop this. The organizations that support illegal Aliens actually teach them to commit fraud. They tell them how to get their anchor babies registered, they tell them and drive them to the welfare offices, they tell them how to get SS even if it means you have to steal. If these organizations were declared political much less conspiratory criminals, they would have to pay back taxes on the "donations" they receive and couldn't afford to lobby our representatives to line their pockets.

Look what is happening in Utah. Police can't question them.Protecting these illegals against any legal obligations is just crazy.It is almost like they are legalizing crime for all the illegals.No matter what they do they ignore their illegal behaviors.And as a result illegals think laws don't apply to them.

20 million illegals in the US, and no one knows how many are using fraudulent SS numbers, but imagine you are on SS or disability and suddenly your checks stop, you call and find out you are working in another State and have either made too much money to qualify or your disability is revoked, or even your refund has been taken. This is rampent now and the law will not help you. Even if you use your own money to find the culprit, to keep illegals out of jail the law reads that in order for that person to be arrested or a lawsuit filed, you must prove that the person using your number knows you, and took your number knowing it was yours. All the law can do is stop the person from using it, so he or she goes and spends another couple hundred bucks, and gets another one and goes on his way.

My,my they have no problem arresting some poor soul for making a pet out of a raccoon.

I am the victim of this type of ID theft. SOmeone filed a fraudulent tax return with my name and ss#. But, how do they forge the w2 ? That piece of data is provided to the IRS by employers,.... ? But basically I have to jump through hoops and make a ton of calls, and essentially they do nothing to track the persons down. Lucky me. I have to file my taxes by mail and wait 2 months for the #$%$ money now.

My son is trying o buy a house. Unfortunately, last year the IRS transposed one of the numbers in his SS number and someone else ended up identified as him. Now his tax forms don't match what the IRS has and he has to prove he is who he is. He did this last year and the IRS was supposed to have fixed this but they still messed up his identification.

let us run to other countries to bring democracy when we can't even manage our own country

The numbers need to be reissued, with a few additional digits, and only the holder and Uncle should know the full number. This is a mess which has been brewing for decades. Everyone demands a social security number whether they can be trusted with it or not.

Our own government rules require you to give it up to your doctors, dentists, and even your veterinarian. Look up Red Lock Rules; aka Red Flag Rules. They are supposed to prevent ID theft and fraud but promote dissemination of the very private information people need to keep private in the first place.

For an undocumented illegal to get a job he needs to provide a legal document or an I.D. Since he can't get them legaly, he has to steal yours or mine.

Why don't they admit that 90% of it is illegal aliens and that they will do nothing about it? When this happens to a citizen, they just tell them to get a new number instead of actually hunting these people down and arresting them.
