Van catches fire, burns brush after crashing over cliff in San Gabriel Valley

A van burst into flames after crashing nearly 200 feet down the side of a cliff in the San Gabriel Valley early Tuesday.

The crash was reported around 12:15 a.m. near South Turnbull Canyon Road and Beverly Hills Drive in Whittier.

Responding firefighters found the vehicle on fire with flames also burning the surrounding brush.

Video showed fire crews got a hose line down the hillside and doused the van, which was almost fully engulfed at the time.

It was unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

New York’s state legislature has passed a bill that would prohibit social media companies from showing so-called “addictive feeds” to children under 18, unless they obtain parental consent. The Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act defines an addictive feed as one where the content is recommended or prioritized based on information about the user or the user’s device — basically, these are the algorithmic news feeds used by most social apps.
