Military family confirms two men shot home on Mulberry Loop 20+ times

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Police Department is investigating a bizarre shooting incident early Monday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m. officers responded to the 2600 block of Mulberry Loop for a report of a burglary attempt, according to Ricky LaBlue with the Virginia Beach Police Department Public Affairs Office.

Shortly after the call for the burglary, another call to emergency dispatch reported that shots were fired in the area.

The military family that lives in the home told WAVY.com they are “scared and confused” after two men shot at their house.

A family member, who wanted to remain anonymous, told 10 On Your Side home video captured a man ringing the doorbell and then started shooting at least 10 times at the front of the house. Another man is on video shooting at the back of the house.

“My family has no involvement whatsoever in this situation,” the family member said. “We do not know who these men were. I know for a fact that my family has no involvement in anything that would have caused this.”

The family counted at least 23 bullets throughout the house.

“There could have been more,” the family member said.

The family adds they have no idea who would do this as they recently moved to the state after being stationed in Japan for two decades.

“They don’t want to be in the house,” the family member said.

No one was hurt. Officers are working to find the people responsible.

“Unfortunately, anytime [incidents] like this happen, it’s very scary,” LaBlue said. “Our officers are committed to doing the best investigative work that we can.”

Many of the homes in the Keswick area have home security cameras, which residents can use to help solve crimes like this through the camera registry program.

“Cameras are extremely important in solving these crimes,” LaBlue said. “We invite the community to participate.”

The program is voluntary and offers two options for residents.

The family wants to know why this happened.

“Knowing the motive of what happened and clarifying all of those questions would be very helpful,” the family member said. “Just an arrest doesn’t resolve the situation.”
