Vehicle fire blocks lane of Sunshine Skyway into Manatee County

A car fire Friday afternoon at the start of rush hour was blocking one lane of southbound Interstate 275 on the Sunshine Skyway bridge from St. Petersburg into Manatee County, according to the state's 511 traffic system.

The incident occurred at mile marker 10, the state's website said. Emergency vehicles could be seen pulled over to the side of the road about 4 p.m. and a long backup had formed on the bridge back into its approach in St. Petersburg.

By about 4:45 p.m., cameras showed the emergency vehicles had cleared the area and traffic was flowing again.
