Vice, CNN, NBC and ‘Serial’ Among Peabody Winners
Vice News, CNN, NBC and the “Serial” podcast were among the winners for the 74th annual Peabody Awards.
Vice won for “Last Chance High,” a deep look at a Chicago high school with high-risk students running out of options. The media company was also recognized for a report on “The Islamic State,” which featured a Vice journalist embedded with ISIS volunteers in Iraq and Syria.
CNN was recognized for its whistleblower report on the fatal delays in care at veterans hospitals, which sparked a political and media firestorm. The network was also recognized for its reporting from Nigeria about 200 kidnapped schoolgirls by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

NBC also got the nod for chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel’s reporting on ISIS.
And “Serial,” a popular podcast downloaded over 60 million times chronicling the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, and the arrest and trial of Adnan Syed for it, also drew honors.

“In addition to the stalwarts of radio and news, winners such as ‘Serial’ and Vice News demonstrate how new avenues and approaches to storytelling can have a major impact on how we understand truth, reality, and events,” said Dr. Jeffrey P. Jones, director of the Peabody Awards.
