Victim in fatal Scranton fire identified
Oct. 2—The man who died in a fire Saturday night in West Scranton has been identified as Gerard McGuire, 63, Lackawanna County Chief Deputy Coroner Jesse Van Deusen said.
The coroner's office responded to 1502 W. Gibson St. at 8:20 p.m. for a fatality due to a house fire, Van Deusen said.
Van Deusen said McGuire's cause of death will likely be determined on Monday.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 7:41 p.m. to a report of a structure fire with one occupant inside.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the first floor of the house. They knocked down the bulk of the fire quickly but a search found a victim dead inside, acting Assistant Fire Chief Carl Megotz said.
The Scranton fire and police departments are investigating.
