The Chicago White Sox could only hold Carlos Rodon in the minor leagues for so long.

The team purchased the ballyhooed rookie's contract Monday and he is on the roster for tonight's game against the Cleveland Indians. Rodon was drafted third overall in the 2014 MLB Draft out of North Carolina State and after just 34 1/3 innings in the minor leagues since he was drafted 10 months ago, he's in the big leagues.

Before he became the most-hyped pitcher on the south side of Chicago, Rodon was a superstar at Holly Springs (N.C.), earning second-team MaxPreps All-American Team recognition.

His NC State bio says that he was the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Player of the Year as a senior in 2011. He finished that year with an 11-0 record and a 1.40 ERA to go with 135 strikeouts and a state title for a team that went 27-2. He also was stellar at the plate, hitting .370.
