    New Video Proves Iron Piping is No Match for Atlas Copco AIRNet

    Video from Atlas Copco Compressors illustrates how lightweight aluminum AIRnet compressed air system installs 66 percent faster than iron in head-to-head test.

    A new video from Atlas Copco Compressors demonstrated that the Atlas Copco AIRnet aluminum lightweight compressed air piping system can be installed approximately 66 percent faster than an iron compressed air piping system. The video, “AIRnet Challenge,” can be viewed at http://www.atlascopco.us/airnetchallengeusa.

    “This video is a fun way to show the simple installation process and other technology benefits provided by Atlas Copco’s AIRnet piping system,” said Paul Humpreys, vice president of communications and branding for Atlas Copco Compressors. “The video shows the installation time savings element very well, but AIRnet also provides an added money-saving feature in that the tight fittings severely minimize air leakage, which results in significant cost savings.”

    The video shows Patrick, an independent contractor, taking the AIRnet Challenge – a very basic compressed air piping installation done two ways – first with AIRnet piping and then with iron piping. Patrick’s vast experience is with iron piping, having only worked with AIRnet on a few occasions before the video shoot. The two processes are recorded and timed.

    AIRnet comes with a wide range of polymer fittings that provide perfect alignment and make connections easy without the need for threading, welding, gluing or crimping. Combined with the smooth corrosion-free interior surface, the tight joints severely minimize air leakage, which results in less pressure drop, reduces energy waste and delivers significant cost savings. Lightweight, yet robust and easy to cut, the AIRnet piping system can also be installed safely by just one person.

    The basic AIRnet system was completed in less than 35 minutes, while an identical system constructed of iron piping took Patrick one hour and 19 minutes to install. In addition to being quicker, the AIRnet piping installation process was also less physically demanding and cleaner. The video also demonstrated how easily the AIRnet system can be tapped into at a later date for system modifications or additions.
