3 restaurants at Sky Harbor Terminal 2 close
PHOENIX -- For some people, it's last call at Sky Harbor International Airport. Three restaurants in the airport’s Terminal 2 are closing Thursday after their parent company, Delaware North Companies, chose not to renew its contract with Sky Harbor in December. DNC had been under contract with the airport since 1995. Octotillo Sun, which is pre-security, and Phoenix All Star Sports Bar and Round Table Pizza, both post-security, will close their doors, and more than 40 people will be out of work. Only three dining options now remain for Terminal 2, none of which serve alcohol. Barbara Lindsey worked in food and beverage concessions at Sky Harbor for 25 years up until Sunday. "They barely gave us two months notice," Lindsey said. Sky Harbor is accepting proposals for new restaurants and will try to fill empty spaces by June, according to Tammie Fisher, the airport’s aviation director. "We’re also working to establish a temporary bar on the concourse at Terminal 2, and would hope to have that in place shortly," Fisher said. Sky Harbor officials said three other restaurants that subleased through DNC for Terminal 2 will continue operating under direct contracts with the City of Phoenix Aviation Department. Any new restaurants will offer employment to laid-off workers first, according to airport officials, and they will be required to keep those employees for at least 90 days. Until then, Lindsey will need to find a second job. "It’s really sad because I really like working at the airport," she said. "That’s my fun job." DNC has not yet responded to a request for comment.
