Search For Ambush Suspect Centers On Dense Woods
Pennsylvania State Police paused to pay tribute to their fallen comrade, then got back to work hunting for the man suspected as his killer — a self-taught survivalist they are trying to flush out of dense, swampy northeastern Pennsylvania woodland. Police say they are eliminating possible hiding places for the suspect, 31-year-old Eric Frein, including hunting cabins, campsites and other occasional residences in the Pocono Mountains. Frein is charged with killing 38-year-old Cpl. Bryon Dickson and wounding Trooper Alex Douglass in a late-night ambush outside the Blooming Grove barracks a week ago. Schools in the area will be closed again Friday as authorities look for Frein, who was added Thursday to the FBI's 10 most wanted list. Edward Hanko, special agent in charge of the FBI's Philadelphia office said, "We have now made the world where he could hide a very, very small place."

Sessions Forces Five Democratic Senators, GOP Caucus To Vote Against Obama Amnesty
Sen. Jeff Sessions pressured five Senate Democrats — plus the entire GOP caucus — to symbolically vote late Sept. 18 against President Barack Obama’s plans to grant work permits to millions of illegal immigrants. “Tonight’s vote proved beyond a shadow of doubt that Democrats are aware of how much Americans are opposed to Obama’s plans,” said a congressional aide. GOP House and Senate candidates can use the amnesty issue to win in November if they “wake up, smell the Democrats’ fear, and get aggressive and relentless,” the aide said. The vote, and a series of recent polls, show that “the path to long-term majorities for the GOP … [is] appealing to what’s always been the solid core of America — working Americans,” and not by appealing to Democratic-leaning ethnic subgroups, the aide said.

Spanish Leaders Relieved As Scottish 'no' Deals Blow To Catalan Separatists
The leader of Spain's Catalonia region said on Friday he would defy Madrid to hold a non-binding independence vote in less than two months, saying his people deserved the same right to determine their future as Scots who voted to stay in Britain. With its own language and culture, and a long-standing pro-independence movement that has gathered momentum in recent years of economic hardship, Catalonia has sought a referendum on independence similar to the one held in Scotland on Thursday.

Kopacz, announcing her new cabinet line-up at a ceremony at Warsaw's University of Technology, left the other big ministerial posts -- finance, defence, and treasury -- unchanged.

German Minister: EU-U.S. Trade Talks Not Perfect But EU's Best Chance
A European free trade deal with the United States may not be perfect but is the last chance for Europe to remain globally relevant, Germany's economy minister said on Friday. Sigmar Gabriel's comments, made a day before his party decides its line on the negotiations, echoed those of Chancellor Angela Merkel, also on Friday, who said a deal would be of "unimaginable value" and no "red lines" would be crossed.

Fed's Fisher Expects First Rate Hike In The Spring
Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said the Federal Reserve should start raising U.S. interest rates in the spring, earlier than many investors currently expect, and should do so both slowly and gradually. Fisher said, "I personally would want to see, the date of our first move, I personally expect it to occur in the spring and not in the summer as it seems the markets are discounting." It would be a mistake, he said, to wait too long to raise rates and then need to raise them sharply, potentially driving the economy into another recession.
